Invitations
Spring 2003
JUST THE RIGHT NOTE. Use new colors, shapes and trims to create an innovative invitation.

Fall Leaves invitation, Julie Holcomb, $671/100; at Claudia Hanlin's Wedding Library, 212-327-0100.

Tri-fold invitation, Stephannie Barba, $2,250/100; at Claudia Hanlin's Wedding Library, 212-327-0100.
Tissue Paper- Back in the days of slow drying inks, a layer of tissue paper was placed over engraved type to prevent the ink from transferring. Today's inks dry more quickly, but tissue paper is still used, a decorative vestige of days gone by. If you do decide to use tissue paper, make it count, advises Claudia Hanlin of the Wedding Library in N.Y.C. Japanese rice paper, a colored tissue, or a tissue with unusual texture can enhance the overall mood. (Hanlin used red, a traditional color for weddings in China, in creating invitations for a bride of Chinese heritage).
Cost Cutting Tips- Custom artwork costs a lot to create, so it's worth asking your designer if there's any existing artwork (a photo, illustration or motif) that can be reused, says Claudia Hanlin of The Wedding Library.
