Wedded to the Year 2000 (excerpts)
12 June 2000

Planning a wedding in any year is a triumph of hope over aggravation, but never more so than in 2000, when extravagant, idiosyncratic weddings are all the rage, and record numbers of couples are vying for space at Y2K altars.

The Professional Photographers of America, for example, says many of its 8,000 members who work weddings can't handle the demand this year. "We have steady bookings for the photographers (who charge) $8,000 to $15,000, almost as high a booking rate as the $3,000 photographers," says Claudia Hanlin, owner of the newly opened Wedding Library in New York, which refers couples to wedding vendors.
